Why was it on the news?
At least 32,000 people were displaced according to the police (phys.org). The storm brought in more than 500 millimetres of rain, which was over a month’s worth, in a single day. According to state weather agency specialist Jofren Habaluyas, the Batangas province experienced “two month’s worth of rain” across October 24 and 25 (phys.org). Around 300 villages were fully submerged by the floods (phys.org). As of October 25, the death toll is at 76 as rescue efforts continue (phys.org).
