Why was it on the news?

Typhoon Man-yi is the sixth consecutive major storm to hit the Philippines in a month (DW). It reached a maximum sustained wind speeds of around 195 km/h. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, it was the first time on record for four storms to brew simultaneously in the western Pacific ocean in November, which is outside the peak cyclone season between July and October. The storm left at least seven people dead in a landslide (AP News). Along with the two storms preceding it, Typhoon Man-yi had displaced over 700,000 people according to the Official of Civil Defense. The consecutive storms and typhoons that hit the Philippines left a total of more than 160 people dead and caused extensive damage to farmlands that the country may have to import more rice from neighbouring countries. The storms had caused an estimated 470 million Pesos in damage to homes, agriculture and infrastructure (CARE).
